30 Day Video Game Challenge: Day 21 Game with the Best Story

Hello Hello, Lil Buns!

Yay! Another post!
Until I am fully recovered, I will only blog when I am able.

My goal this year is to finally clear up all of those challenge series. So today is going to be

Day 21 of the 30 Day Video Game Challenge
Game with the Best Story

Going through my memories and collections, I realized that most of my favorite memories were from the Sony Playstation Era. Many of the games I enjoyed were part of the time where stories were becoming more complex, made you put more hours into them and even the art and design were evolving. There are so many games that I got to play that really excelled in all of that and so much more. These are the stories that stayed with me and helped developed the person I am today.

It was really difficult to choose just one title that I could say had the best story. It came down to Legend of Legaia, Suikoden 2 and Legend of Dragoon. All of them had such strong stories about kinship, love, betrayal, beliefs and heroism. All had amazing background stories that were straight out of a fantasy book. And all are my favorites, even today. So which one came out on top?

After watching some videos and doing some reading on each, it all came down to

Suikoden 2

You're immediately thrown into the middle of a great war ....from the perspective of 3 young teens. As the silent hero, you are separated from one of your friends and need to find a way back to him. Along the way, you discover yourself - your beliefs, make your own choices and decide what's right and what's wrong. Even if it means going against one of your best friends.

As you go through your journey, you quickly find out that everything you knew was all a lie. That accidents weren't really just accidents and you were a mere pawn in the Prince's plans. That in war, nothing is fair and anyone can be in danger. Even from those that have sworn to protect you. But being on your own allows you to dig deep to find the truth and fight back. You find your own way and recruit the 108 Stars of Destiny to put a stop to the Prince.

I love how this game showed that you don't have to be an adult to know what's right and to gain respect from those outside of your peers. You experience loss, the need to fight to stand up for yourself and to never give up even when the odds are against you. If you make well-thought out decisions and remember you are never alone, even a psychotic killing machine can't stop you.

If you haven't played this game or any in the series, I highly suggest you do. There are so many more great things I could say about this game but that would take a lot of the fun out of it. It's truly a game everyone should at least try.

That's all for now! See you next time!

  1. I've not heard of any of those games! They sound interesting (we did have have games when I was young)
Unfortunately I haven't a game console now, or I'd want to give some of these a try!
